20 Money Saving tips

Here’s what works for me — please avoid flaming me, as I’m not saying they’ll work for everybody. Share your tips and tricks in the comments!

1. Use cash. Instead of charging things to credit cards or debit cards, use cash for non-bill spending such as eating out, gas, groceries. Spending cash makes the spending more real, and there’s an added advantage of knowing when you’re out of cash, instead of spending more than you

2. Small weekly savings transfers. I got this idea from my friend Trent at The Simple Dollar, who automatically deducts $20 a week from his check to savings. I decided that I could live with $40/week without really feeling it — it’s a relatively small transfer that I barely notice, and I save about $2,000 a year on top of my larger bi-weekly savings transfers.

Faceless Communication

“If you can’t stand in front of your target, reading what you’ve written aloud, you have no right to it.” - Frank Watson

After reading countless articles on social media, and sadly more recently of the tale of Megan Meier, it would seem that the bad element of society thrives on the safety of being anonymous. So often I’ve looked at blog postings, or more specifically the comments left by unnamed visitors, and wondered if those people would actually be able to say what they do to someone else face to face.

Stop, Think - Before You Build Another Link

Posted June 9th, 2008 by Sandy

Search engine optimization encompasses link building as one of the cornerstones of off-page optimization. Off-page optimization deals with the number of inbound links a site receives from other websites and how they reference and link to the target site.

Before you look outside of your own site for links, harvesting the “link equity” and internal link opportunities that exist within your own site are paramount when acquiring competitive keywords.Internal links are link wine, they get stronger with age, so how many pages do you have within your site that have page rank (a healthy volume of link weight) that you could harness for a common goal.

Is Search Engine Positioning Dead?

Posted June 6th, 2008 by Sandy

One of the trendiest takes on Internet marketing these days seems to be this notion that securing top search engine rankings “no longer works.” Where it started, I have no idea.

But rarely does a week go by when I don’t see one or more Internet marketing “experts” claiming that search engine positioning is largely a waste of time and should not be a primary focus of web site owners.

Well…as the saying goes, “there are two sides to every story.”

But let’s not make this article about my side, or your side, or anyone else’s side. Let’s forget about my opinion and other “experts” opinions and stick to the indisputable facts, as reported by highly credible 3rd party sources:

* According to a Forrester Research Media Field Study, getting a loyal audience in the first place is best done by Search Engine Placement.
* According to a GVU Users Survey, 84.8% of Internet users use Search Engines to find websites.

Six KEY Parts of an Attraction Marketing System For Online Marketers

Posted June 6th, 2008 by Sandy

There is a serious lack of marketing skills in the home business industry. The vast majority of people in online businesses do not know enough about marketing and they are intensely interested in finding out how to really make their online, or home based business work.

What Attraction Marketing allows you to do is stand out from the crowd and position yourself as a leader that has something of value to offer. The key to attraction marketing success is to learn what you target market is insatiably interested in learning, and then teaching them those things.

Sounds simple enough and it is if you’re resourceful and creative. And if you focus on learning what your target market is really interested in and you give them that information, you’ll be able to attract quality leads who will turn into responsive prospects and ultimately buy your product, system or become your affiliate or partner.

Sell Social Media So That Your Clients Can Buy It!

As social media moves beyond early adapters to become more mainstream, Marketers are beginning to realize the tremendous opportunities in SMM.

Marketers need to start allocating budget over but to do so requires more reason than just intuitively “knowing” that it’s the right thing to do. Unfortunately marketers are currently ill equipped to sell social media internally to their stakeholders.

Part of our role as Social Media Marketers is to explain social media to our clients so that they can in turn “sell” it internally to their stakeholders. When I talk about social media with a client, I break it down into easily understandable pieces. In essence, a formula….

Search, the Final Frontier

“Second star to the right and straight on till morning.” - James T. Kirk

I am still amazed on a daily basis just how many people don’t know, don’t realize or simply don’t care just how powerful the average internet browser can be. It almost seems as though the average user either has their browser homepage set to their own website homepage (usually by the technician that set the network up) or to a search engine or directory of preference.

Add Emotional Impact To Your Content

Posted May 9th, 2008 by Sandy

With the number of websites and Blogs growing daily you need to make sure your website stands out from your competition. Your product or service needs to be the best solution for their problem, and you need to quickly and clearly convey that.

Previously we talked about the importance of headlines to draw your prospects into your site. Once they are in your site and reading your content you can’t drop the ball. Your text needs to continue to compel and excite your visitors.

You need to remind them why they are there (usually your site visitors are looking for something they want or they are looking for a solution to a problem).

Your copy (text) needs to remind them of their pain and talk about the solution you offer.

Although your website is about you and your products and services, your copy needs to always relate back to them. It needs to make them feel like you understand them and have exactly what they need.

Local Search Engine Optimization - Revisited

Posted May 9th, 2008 by Sandy

Roughly a year ago, local search engine optimization was all the rage - the new frontier in search engine marketing. For a while, it seemed that everyone was interested in the local search angle - even multi-national companies. However, for many companies selling products or services to the entire United States, or even globally, it seemed like a non-starter. Companies that counted on people looking for certain products or services that did not require close proximity to the company’s location were unaffected. As far as local search engine optimization goes, things have changed a bit since then - at least for some.
